What to expect

CBT takes place over an agreed number of 50 minute sessions (sometimes 6-8 but can be longer depending on the issue) usually weekly or fortnightly. We will initially contract for 8 sessions with a review of progress at session 6.

At the beginning of each session, the counsellor will review how things have been going since the last session and they will agree with the client what will be covered during the session. There is always an opportunity to contribute to the session agenda, and provide feedback on how counselling is going so that any adjustments can be made.

Between sessions, clients will usually be tasked with an activity to complete or practice before the next session. To get the most out of CBT it's important that the client does this work between sessions. The more someone engages with counselling, the better the results.
